A-Listers A Big Hit At The Palm Springs International Film Festival

Happy New Year! I hope your holidays have been groovy. I took a mini vacation from blogging but I'm back. Here are some videos of the stars that came out to the Palm Spring International Film Festival Gala.
Some of my favorite actors were in attendance and some new talented faces were in the mix. Bono, The Edge, Meryl Streep, Gary Oldman, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong'o, Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts and Matthew McConaughey to name a few spent time with delighted fans.

Who Shot Rock And Roll Exhibit At The Anneberg Space For Photography Closes

The last days and nights at the The Anneberg Space for Photography were jammed back with fans of great photography and Rock & Roll. I went Saturday night and checked out the "Who Shot Rock and Roll" Documentary. It was the best part of the exhibit for me. Led Zepplin, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Noel Gallagher, Linda McCartney's archives, John Lennon in New York as well as the interviews with the photographers were my favorite part. It was a wonderful exhibit. Kudos to the Anneberg for producing such a fantastic showing of some great moments in music and cultural history.

It was also great to see subjects Grace Jones, Ian Gallagher, Bono having a section in the show as well as the Rock Icons being some of my favorite stars that I've photographed and video'd over the past few years. I look forward to having my own exhibit with my favorite photographs and videos soon.

U2 The Greatest Band In The Galaxy

Ok I bitched and moaned about driving to Anaheim to check out U2 latest tour. I hate Traffic. Suffice it to say, forgive me for my whining. The trip was worth it. Lenny Kravitz opened the show. He has a marvelous band and I want to see him in a full concert but this is about U2 so let me get back to it. AMAZING SHOW! I'm going to be brief because I'm very tired and have a busy day tomorrow or should I say I have a busy day today. Anyway, the stage design makes one's jaw drop. U2 and their creative team has been the best in the world for some time now. I call the stage a design a huge spider that shoots lights in the sky. Matter of fact as I was leaving the concert and getting back on the freeway, I noticed that the lights from the "spider" blasted the night sky for miles around. From far away it looked like a Pyramid activated (similar to the Luxor Hotel in Vegas). But historically speaking, it is surmised by some that the Great Pyramids were beacons of light that were in alignment with the Dog Star, Sirius. But that is another story. I always wondered about U2's music and the application of sacred geometry and I think I just answered my own question. Best part of the show for me was when a special guest from outer space introduced "Beautiful Day". Epic. Tears started streaming from my eyes. U2 are master show men. They know how to play with heart strings. Very engagingly clever show indeed.

Maria Shriver - What A Friend She Has In Bono

Yesterday was a bizarre day as the city almost seemed deserted of stars and I ended up getting a migrane and going home to watch the full season of the Showtime series 'The Borgias'. While I was resting my head watching the political and personal scandals of a Spanish family in turmoil in Italy centuries ago, another major family in this present day was suffering some of the same debauchery and intrigue. Bono was in town for 'American Idol' to perform but also took time out of his busy schedule to comfort a dear friend Maria Shriver. Of all the places to go, they chose the Ivy a place that everyone knows to be the place to get seen and photographed. What a day to get a migrane?! In the game of photos near misses don't count. But more importantly, Maria Shriver received a shoulder from a friend named Bono. The Kennedy's, as well as Bono, are known for charitable work worldwide. They have both collaborated in joint charitable ventures in the past. And if memory serves me, I believe Bono attended Maria Shriver's father Sargent Shriver's funeral. Sargent Shriver was respected for his creation and development of the Peace Corps. So although some are trying to make it look unseemingly for Maria and Bono to meet out in public, it is certainly not. Luckily, Maria Shriver has a friend in Bono.

Here's the video of one of my favorite men on the planet Bono signing for fans outside the Chateau Marmont before U2's historic Rosebowl Concert in Pasadena. Bono doesn't have to sign and keep so close to his fans but he does. This is greatly appreciated by those who get it. The other swill that just sell his autographs and are obnoxious blocking everyone else, don't get it. Bono and his assistant had to hold the rude ones back. I decided to just get out of the way and shoot from another side. On this day, Bono was the only member of U2 that signed. The other members were waiting down the street in limos. For Bono to take the time to sign before soundcheck reflects how kind he is and his understanding of what it means to be a Rock Star. I love Bono for that...

Passion of the BONO

I've had some of the best times of my life going to concerts, hanging backstage, sneaking in for free. U2 has been one of my favorite bands for so many reasons. Besides the great music, the global mastery of marketing, the charitable causes, the concerts turning into a religious experience, BONO is so damn likeable. There is something about him on the same level as MJ when it comes to giving so much to his fans. Maybe too much but I'm thankful for it. Somehow Love exudes from BONO after all the years that I've seen the band. So much hope he has always had when you talk to him about Politics. As a showman, he is a master. I have great respect for him and the band. Adam Clayton is also one of my favorites. He is one of the sweetest men on the planet.
This time around BONO held court solo with the fans waiting for him before the Rosebowl Concert on the last leg of U2 2009 American Tour.





I like several others waited for hours. And of course there were the autograph hounds who sell their merchandise who showed up at the last minute and stuck their wares and pushed and shoved. I wasn't having it. BONO grew tired of it as well. And many of the respectful fans kindly got out of the way after BONO was kind enough to sign and let the vultures have at it. It is very hard to photograph when you have people hitting you on the head with albums and trying to push their way from the back to the front. But one has to play it like basketball and block them. I play mad defense. Anyway, I would happily spend my Sundays photographing BONO and the rest of the band anytime that are paths meet. To me it is a joy to see stars like BONO interact with his fans. Although I wonder if it gets overwhelming for him.
I feel very blessed to be around so many talented people who genuinely seem to care about others. BONO is definitely in my top 3 of all time if not top 2. Michael Jackson will always be first.

So I was doing some recognisance because the biggest band in the world was in town. U2 has been on top for 25 years. What an accomplishment.
With a new album out NEW HORIZON the media blitz had begun so I was on their trail.
The Chateau Marmont was the place to be earlier today. By the time I got there I was told that I had missed the Edge by ten minutes. There was a rumor that U2was going to be playing at Capitol Records. I was hoping they were going to do a roof top gig so I went by early to see if I could see any tell tale signs. There was none so I went by and saw the crowd and waited and waited and waited. I thought my bladder was going to burst actually. But as the time went closer and closer to 5:00 pm and the meter maids were given out tickets, Adam Clayton made his way out to the fans.





Adam took time to sign and take pictures while Larry Clayton made a mad dash inside the hotel.
