Porn Star TJ Cummings Aka Nick Steel Outed As HIV+ Attempting To Work After Testing Positive

The Porn world is like any cult corporation it has no heart nor soul. It is all about the money. Case in point, when it comes to mandatory usage of condoms and safer sex practices being fought tooth and nail by some of the most prominent "stars" and producers in the porn industry. It seems simple wrap it up, use rapid testing on the day of filming, make sure performers are tested for all STDs and not allowed to work if they have them. Common sense thinking better yet use some of the successful models in the sex industries that have fewer rates of transmissions: better education reduces risks.  Earlier this month a porn actor TJ Cummings tested positive for HIV.  A few days later knowing what his test results were (reported by MikeSouth.com), TJ contacted Pressley Carter another porn star to do a webcam show.  According to an interview Pressley did with BallerAlert.com, TJ Cummings offered $400 for her to have sex on webcam (this of course after he was informed that his test came back positive).  Luckily, she declined after finding out herself of his status. TJ Cummings has been called a crossover artist meaning he performs in both straight and gay sex work in the porn world. Many experts in the field of sex believe that due to the design of the anus it is highly susceptible to tears and rips therefore penetration via sex and exchanging of bodily fluid (blood, saliva and semen) increase the risk substantially of contracting sexually transmitted diseases. Combined with any drug use like crystal meth, cocaine, molly and Ecstasy a person who loves to have sex can develop risky behaviors under the influence and may need to earn more and more cash to pay for their addictions.  Porn stars have had to up their game as well due to the loss of revenue from the onslaught of free net porn.  Many porn performers make appearances in strip clubs/bath houses, work as escorts and perform web cam shows. Fast money never seems to be enough.  So being addicted to the lifestyle of "Live Fast and Die Young" becomes  the motto where safety, honesty and safe sex don't mean much. The Narcissistic mentality of only thinking of one's self and not caring about exposing others become the norm. So what can we learn from another Porn Star testing HIV+, those on the outside world who think the world of porn has nothing to do with us/them? Learn from the fact that some of these performers are willing to work with STD/STIs and do NOT care if they infect others.  Also like the porn world everyone that appears to be straight is not whether that means with drugs or sex. It is all about the Benjamins, getting off and/or both. So taking someone's word for their status is not a safe bet. Educate Yourself & Play Safe.

Just found out another porn actor/actress has tested positive for the AIDS virus. This has caused a mandatory shut down in porn filming in the Los Angeles. Porn rakes in upwards of $14 Billion dollars in profits. Big Business has agendas. Porn is a destructive force pushing more than unprotected sex and risky behavior but that is another story that I will write on later.
If the performer who has contracted the virus, worked or had sex with a partner or multiple partners in another state or several or even in another country/countries while being infected, how would he or she or anyone know? Due to the nature of the situation, the health authorities can not name the person. It is slightly confusing who is responsible for the testing and notification of the performers due to AIM Medical Associates being shut down and embroiled in a law suit. AIM used to be responsible for testing and maintaining a data base for porn performers in the industry. Now the FSC (Free Speech Coalition- a porn industry/adult industry trade association) is in the mix as well. It seems a little dumb to have the Porn Industry (executives) at the helm of an organization that is suppose to make sure sex workers/performers will be safe and healthy. It would seem more logical to have an outside Health Authority making sure that porn performers were STD free and clear to work. By the way, many performers are clear to work if they have multiple STDs. It seems they only have mandatory shut downs if a performer tests positive for HIV. I guess when one looks deeply at the problem the only person who is responsible, is the person not wearing a condom.
A group of activists including FAIR (For Adult Industry Responsibility) and The Aids Healthcare Foundation have joined together to put an initiative on the California ballot in 2012 to force mandatory condom use in adult films.

With the reporting of the first HIV+ man being cured by the help of stem cell research by German doctors, the airing of ESPN Homecoming with Magic Johnson who has had HIV since 1991, as well as December 1st being National AIDS Day, and Patient Zeta, Derrick Burts outing himself, the world and the subworld of the internet has been buzzing about HIV and AIDS. With the hopes of stem cell research "curing" HIV and anti-viral drugs making the disease livable, many young people are naive about catching the disease or getting sexually transmitted diseases. Contrary to some beliefs, there are no "magic" cures. Each individual's resistance to diseases is based on varying factors too numerous to mention. The risks are still real. In the past week since the airing of Derrick Burts press conference, AIM's (The Adult Industry Medical Care facility where porn actors/actresses get tested for STDs) clinic was shut down due to incomplete paperwork and operating without a proper license. So after a decade of being in operation, within a week and after Burts blast of his treatment at AIM, the clinic was closed. Porn stars are going to other clinics for their testing and follow up care. According to their website and other reports, AIM believes the closure is temporary. The battle between Derrick Burts and AIM seems to be having lasting effects. Derrick Burts Proves The Price of Porn Is Too High

After trying to do some further research on Derrick Burts (aka Cameron Reid and Derek Chambers his porn aliases), I was surprised how hard it was to find pictures of him or more information on the net. I did find a video on youtube where he talks about being a bottom on a gay porn shoot. Comments for that video were disabled. I wanted to know more than what was available at that time. On further investigation, I found out about his press conference. I decided to go because I thought the story was so important. Side note, I was invited to cover an event with Josyln James this past Friday but was unable to attend because I was at another event where Stevie Wonder and Jon B. were in attendance. But I wanted a chance to ask Josyln James a porn actress as well as widely known for being one of Tiger Wood’s mistresses who did not use condoms with the golf star, if she was worried about sexually transmitted diseases. I wanted a real conversation. With Derrick Burts speaking at the AIDS Health Care Foundation press conference, I was touched by his honesty and his genuine sadness.


Imagine being 24 years old and finding out you have HIV. Many people easily judge and say well what do you expect? If you work in the porn industry and you do both straight and gay porn you are bound to wind up with something. Burts did. He admits to getting chlamydia, gonorrhea, and herpes during his short career as a porn actor before testing positive in October 2010 for HIV.
Derrick Burts talked about the slippery slope of wanting more money. The lure of the fast buck led him to an ad on Craigslist for a solo act masturbation video. From there, Derrick found additional contacts that took him on a path that he is on now. From solo acts, to straight porn and when he realized the money was not as high as he wanted him ventured into gay which pays more.
Derrick also broke his silence in regard to the Porn Industry’s financed AIM Clinic. He alleges that they told him to keep working when he contracted chlamydia, gonorrhea, and herpes because most performers at one time or another are infected with STDs. We will assume they also told him to get treatment. Although AIM tested Burts, he alleges that they told him when he was HIV infected to keep his mouth shut. Derrick Burts also said he waited for 6 weeks for follow up care. It seems clear that AIM’s job is to do testing and fulfill the minimum requirements of a clinic. There main objective is to give the appearance that the Porn Industry is safe and that they do HIV testing. Follow up care is not their forte.

So easy to judge someone in his situation but I can’t help but think how many of the people who would never do porn, WATCH IT! We feed the need for more films and more exploitation. Sometimes I wonder what kind of people do certain acts and then I have to check myself and say, “why are you watching it?” I don’t have any answers. I just hope that we all learn something from Derrick Burts story. Maybe we will have second thoughts about having unsafe sex without a condom, maybe we will get tested, maybe we will make better choices, maybe someone will decide that getting into the porn business is not a wise decision if you don’t know the risks, maybe we will all take more responsibility for our sexual actions. Maybe we will think before we go after that fast buck or fuck? There is a price to be paid for our collective and individual actions. The price of infection is too high for the risk. In a world where nothing seems to be off limits in the porn industry and jaw dropping unsafe sex practices are the norm, how many people have to be infected with STDs and HIV before we take a closer look at ourselves? The questions are unsettling. Is mandatory condom use and dental dams needed in all porn? Is condom usage in porn unsexy which in turns influences the general population? What is the number of porn stars with STDs affecting the general population? Is mandatory usage of condoms/dental dams in Porn against individual rights and/or freedom of expression? These are questions to think about. It comes down to the fact that each individual is responsible for her/his safety. In other words, don’t let anyone trick, manipulate or goad you into having unsafe sex or sex in general if you don’t want it. You are responsible not the government, not your partner but YOU! Unfortunately it doesn’t matter if you are young or old, naive or not, you are the one that will be living with the consequences of your actions. So think before you spread your legs or your butt cheeks. *Update a spokesperson from AIM has refuted Derrick Burts claim that the clinic staff didn’t help him with follow up treatment.
